Tellfind combines guided discovery, focused comparison, and personalized recommendations in one mobile experience.
THE CHALLENGE
Tech shopping gives people more information—but not always more clarity.
Finding the right device often means jumping between retailer pages, reviews, videos, and specification charts. The information exists, but it is scattered, difficult to compare, and rarely connected to a person’s real needs.
The design challenge: How might I help shoppers narrow their choices, understand meaningful differences, and make a confident decision in one place?

I designed and refined mobile flows for voice search, smart filtering, comparisons, and personalized recommendations.
CORE INSIGHT
People do not need every specification. They need help understanding which differences matter for the way they will use the device.
Interview participants repeatedly described doing their own research, checking multiple sources, and struggling to get useful help while shopping.
RESEARCH
Understanding how people choose technology
Rather than starting with features, I focused on the decisions people were trying to make. I interviewed five participants and synthesized their responses with an affinity map and empathy map.

Five user interviews
I asked what triggers a device purchase, how people research options, and where the shopping experience becomes frustrating.
Heuristic evaluation
I reviewed popular technology shopping experiences and found cluttered layouts, weak filtering, and inconsistent navigation that slowed decision making.
Synthesis & Mapping
I used affinity and empathy mapping to group repeated needs: fewer disconnected sources, clearer language, stronger comparisons, and more guidance.
FROM EVIDENCE TO DIRECTION
Three principles guided the design

Use goals, habits, and budget to narrow the search before presenting technical details.

Highlight differences that affect the user instead of presenting dense, identical-looking specification lists.

Explain why a recommendation fits and let users adjust the inputs that shaped it.
KEY DESIGN DECISION
Turn a broad search into a guided conversation
A standard search bar assumes users already know the right product language. Tellfind supports voice search and smart prompts, helping people describe what they need in familiar words. This became especially important after testing showed that the original voice assistance icon was confused with customer service.

Testing and iteration
Evolution of the product

Voice control was unclear
Participants could not reliably distinguish voice assistance from customer service.
Design response
I simplified and clarified the voice-command control and removed the customer service icon, making its purpose easier to recognize.

Confirmation lacked reassurance
Participants wanted more information about what would happen after purchase.
Design response
I expanded the confirmation content to set clearer expectations and reduce uncertainty.

Visual meaning was weak
The hero image and similar voice controls made the screen's purpose difficult to understand.

A clear hierarchy separates search, voice input, categories, and product discovery.
OUTCOME
Evidence and honest reflection.
I tested the high-fidelity prototype in six moderated usability sessions. Participants responded positively to the interface and completed the assigned tasks, while also exposing problems with carousel imagery, text readability, filtering, the voice icon, payment choices, and purchase confirmation.
I used those findings to revise the most confusing content and controls before producing the final prototype.
Next measurement
In a future round, I would capture task completion, time on task, filter errors, and confidence ratings to measure whether the revised experience helps shoppers reach a shortlist faster.
Reflection
What I learned
Tellfind taught me that simplifying a technical decision is not about removing information at random. It is about understanding what users are trying to accomplish, then revealing the right information at the right moment.
If I continued the project, I would test the recommendation logic with a wider range of shoppers, improve accessibility across voice and touch interactions, and measure whether users can reach a confident shortlist faster.
